Report of the meeting of the Parish Council of Castle Hedingham held on Wednesday, 22nd October 2008 issued by the Clerk

The Kissing gates: These have now been installed at the top of Scotch Pasture Grove.  They have been placed on the opposite side to the stile (due to pipes laid to carry water to the house which hindered exact replacement).  Essex County Council has been notified of this slight change.

The Village Design Statement: This is currently on sale at Magnolia Tea Rooms at £2.00 per copy.

Memorial Hall Window:  The stonemason has attended site and the work will commence in the near future.

Playing field: The painting of the equipment at the playing field has been completed.  There are still one or two items to which need attention, i.e. moles. In addition new posts and chains have been put in place across the entrance to the playing field.

Churchyard footpath: An application for a grant to repair this footpath has been made to the Braintree Witham and Halstead Local Committee

Traffic Management Liaison Panel: The Parish Council are applying to represent  Castle Hedingham Parish on this Panel – only eight parishes may be represented.

Braintree District Council: A bus and transportation working group will be gathering information from bus companies and investigating needs from local groups including any inter-connecting services during the next five months. 

Parish Rate Book: the recently returned Parish Rate Book 1833 – 1835 will be sent to the Essex Record Office to be held with other surviving parish records.  It will be made available on line for research.

Post Office: The Parish Council have contacted the Post Office and Sir Alan Hazlehurst MP in respect of the temporary closure of the village post office – responses will be forwarded to the Post Master.

Stile repairs: The PRoW Officer will be asked if volunteers could be involved in the repair of 4 stiles which appear to have been vandalised.

Parish Clerk: The Parish Clerk has tendered her resignation.  Advertisements for a successor are to be placed in the local press and village newspapers.

Repair of highways:  Depressions in Nunnery Street and Bayley Street have been filled.

Sustainability:  The Parish Council have formed a sub-committee to look at the issue of sustainability within the Parish.

Vandalism:  Following reports of vandalism and rowdiness within the village on 18th October a report has been made to the police.
