Report of the meeting of the Parish Council of Castle Hedingham held on Wednesday, 8th February 2006 issued by the Clerk

Village Maintenance –The Parish Council is still open to applications for the vacancy for a Village Maintenance Employee. The council is seeking to appoint a conscientious and enthusiastic individual to carry out this vital role in the village to help keep Castle Hedingham looking its best. The post will be for 10 hours a week £6.50 per hour. Duties include emptying the village bins, litter picking and street sweeping. Applications forms are available from Parish Council Chairman Mrs Allfrey 01787 461108 or the Parish Clerk Mrs Carter 01787 461149 (please telephone after 4.30 pm). The closing date for applications will be 19th February and interviews held on 28th February.

Youth Hostel Closure – The meeting discussed the proposed closure of the village’s Youth Hostel and the impact this will have on the village. A number of parishioners had contacted Mrs Beavis regarding this matter. It was agreed that the Clerk write to the Youth Hostel association to express concern about the proposed closure and ask what the plans are for the hostel.

Planning Comments

Application 05/02028/TPOCON - Carry out works to trees - Trinity Hall, 17 – 19 Queen Street, Castle Hedingham – All branches should be pruned back to the trunk to promote regeneration.

06/00099/FUL - Alterations to existing garage; removal of existing corrugated sheeting and construction of pitched and tiled roof -Garage block 5 Castle Lane, Castle Hedingham - The tiles are a great improvement but the Parish Council would want to be assured that the necessary pitch is kept to an absolute minimum. The Council would also like to see a planning condition imposed to ensure that the garages would be solely for private use

Garden Waste: Recycling Garden waste - recycling will take place in the village between 8.45 – 9.15 at Kirby Hall Road on 18th March, 29th April, 10th June, 8th July, 5th August, 9th September and 7th October

Youth Council – It was reported that the Youth Council had held its first meeting on Monday 6th February and a synopsis of the minutes was read to the meeting. The Council is very enthusiastic and is pursuing a number of projects including the possibility of having a youth shelter in Sible Hedingham, extending the hours of the youth centre and liaising with the police regarding anti-social behaviour. A launch event will be held shortly which will be organised by the Youth Council and the Steering Group. Two members of the Youth Council have been nominated to attend Parish Council meetings from March to give a report on their activities and act as a liaison between the Parish Council and Youth Council. Two other Youth Councillors will attend Sible Hedingham Parish Council meetings. Councillors were delighted with the positive start that has been made by the Youth Council.
