Have your say on Parish boundaries

Aug 2, 2017

The first wide-ranging review of Braintree District’s Town and Parish Council parish boundaries in more than 30 years will start on Tuesday (August 1).

Residents and other stakeholders will be able to have their say on the governance of their local areas in the first formal review since 1983.

The review focusses on the appropriateness of:

  • Parish Boundaries
  • Number of Town and Parish Councillors
  • Town and Parish Council Name and any warding arrangements

This review is not looking at the efficiency or effectiveness of an individual Council or indeed the conduct of Councillors.

Cllr Wendy Schmitt, Deputy Leader of Braintree District Council which is the Principal Local Authority, said: “These sorts of community governance reviews usually take place every 15 years and although we have had smaller reviews during the past 30 years there has not been a demand for formal full scale review like this, so I hope residents and stakeholder get involved and have their say.”

To inform the review process Braintree District Council invited all established parish councils to identify any issues they wished to be considered in the review. The review will also allow consideration of changes to the communities across the district and potential changes which may come forward as a result of the development of the Local Plan.
